Spiders are either loved or hated by the world’s population. We appreciate them for their ability to catch other pests, kill them and eat them, but at the same time, there’s that “gross-out” factor that many people cannot stand to have. Whether the spiders are small or large, they bring chills to some and celebration to others. They are found in and outside of the home and can even be poisonous. Here is a short list of the ten most poisonous spiders found in the United States.

1. Brown Recluse Spider – found across the United States, predominantly in the South. Venom from this spider can cause injuries of tissue loss and necrosis.

2. Black Widow Spider – Found outdoors and in sheds and cluttered areas in basements and crawl spaces. Bites can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, hypertension and abdominal pain. There were anti-venoms developed in 1956 for bites from these spiders.

3. Hobo Spider- Normally found in some of the north western states, this spider is usually found at ground level and below (in basements). Bites will blister and break open. Symptoms include headache, nausea, fatigue, weakness, temporary memory loss, and even vision impairment.

4. Grass Spider – Found mostly in the Pacific Northwest, these spiders have a low risk to humans.

5. Female Mouse Spider – Both the male and female mouse spiders normally won’t bite unless provoked. Male spiders will tend to bite before the female, and their fangs are rather large and produce a very painful bite. It’s important to seek medical attention immediately. These spiders are ground dwellers and burrow up to 3 feet into the ground.

6. Male Mouse Spider – Can be found in both coastal and drier habitats. Symptoms include tingling around the mouth and tongue, facial muscle twitching, nausea, vomiting, profuse sweating, salivation and shortness of breath.

7. Black House Spider – While not lethal, black house spiders’ bites are poisonous. People who have been bitten have experienced pain, sweating, muscular pains, headaches, and vomiting. First aid should be sought immediately.

8. Wolf Spider – Like the Black House Spider, the wolf spider is poisonous, but not lethal. If provoked, the spider will bite freely. If a child or elder is bit, seek medical attention immediately.

9. Female Trap-door spider – Trap door spiders present a non-toxic bit to humans and aren’t very aggressive. They rarely bite, but if so, it can be very painful.

10. Garden Orb-weaving spider – These spiders present a non-toxic venom to humans. They rarely bite, and can be found in garden areas around the home. Their webs can be 6 feet or more in size and can be found between buildings or shrubs.

Emphysema is actually a respiratory illness of the lungs that is progressive in nature and causes breathing complications. This illness belongs to the class of diseases known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and is popularly known as obstructive lung disease. It is triggered when the alveolar walls of the lung become damaged along with the capillary blood vessels. The result is that this condition shrinks the area inside the lung where blood and air meets each other thereby reducing the impending oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange. This makes the victim experience severe breathlessness and difficulty in breathing.

One of the main causes of emphysema is smoking that stimulates the inflammatory cells present in the lungs thereby causing inflammation inside the bronchioles and stimulation of specific enzymes known as proteases that assault and damages the lung tissues. It can also be triggered by a genetic deficiency of a chemical that guards the lungs against destruction by proteases. Another main factor that causes this problem is old age.

The most apparent indications of this disease are severe breathlessness, headaches, recurrent cough, wheezing, and problems in concentration, constriction in the chest, irritation and chest distention. If you find that you are a victim of more than one of the above mentioned indications, it is advised to consult a doctor and rule out this illness. Diagnosis is based on lung function test, blood tests, X-rays and a CT-scan if necessary.

Emphysema has no permanent cure as the lung destruction that has occurred is irreversible. But since it is a progressive disease, treatment can be done to arrest further progression and damage of the lungs. If the victim is a smoker, the primary goal is to stop smoking completely. Bronchodilators are prescribed to aid in relaxing the muscles and helping to loosen up the breathing tubes and promote more flow of air. You can also resort to natural remedies that will help to fortify your respiratory and immune system.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that is extremely widespread. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people who suffer from diabetes worldwide is estimated at about 180 million.

What happens to a diabetic person?

Either the pancreas does not produce insulin (Type I) or it does produce insulin, but the body is unable to use it properly (type II). Insulin is a very important hormone for the body. Its main role is to regulate blood glucose (blood sugar) and the effect of diabetes is to increase blood sugar.

What are the complications of the disease?

Without the proper treatment, this disorder can lead to blindness, kidney failure, limb necrosis, heart disease and stroke. Diabetes may also lead to hypoglycemia, which can make a person fall into a coma and cause arrhythmia or even an acute coronary incident.

How can I treat diabetes through diet?

The proper diet is a very important part of the treatment of diabetes, along with maintaining a healthy body weight and following an exercise program. By including certain foods in your diet and avoiding certain others, you will be able to lower your blood sugar levels the natural way.

But what are the foods that increase blood sugar? Some people believe that only sugar and the foods that contain it raise blood sugar, but the truth is that all carbohydrates can increase glucose levels. Carbohydrates are a component of many foods, such as fruits, vegetables, dairy products and starch (like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes). This means that carbs are hidden in almost all foods except cheese, meat, fats and oils.

Regardless of whether you suffer from diabetes of type 1 or 2, the carbohydrates you eat should be evenly distributed throughout the day. This means that you should avoid eating 2-3 large meals per day and eat 5-6 small meals instead. Out of these 6 meals the 3 should be your main meals and the other 3 should be snacks. Until not so long ago, there was the perception that a diabetic should not eat foods containing sugar or starch. But later research showed that the form of carbohydrate doesn’t matter, and the quantity is much more important. Thus a diabetic patient should follow a balanced diet without deprivations and prohibitions.

What is more, diabetes is a risk factor for coronary heart disease. Therefore people with diabetes should have a low intake of saturated fatty acids, which can increase “bad” cholesterol, LDL. Saturated fatty acids are contained in foods of animal origin, such as red meat, eggs, butter and full-fat dairy products. White meat and fish are low in saturated fatty acids. For this reason, red meat should be included in the diet only twice per month, and chicken and fish can be consumed 1-2 times per week. You should also avoid butter and replace it with olive oil.

Particular attention should be paid to the consumption of alcohol. Alcohol causes hypoglycemia and for this reason it should always be consumed with a meal or a snack that contains carbohydrates. Of course, you need to keep in mind that a diabetic shouldn’t drink a lot of alcohol. Men can consume 2 drinks per day and women 1 drink per day.

Here are the foods eat to treat diabetes:

Yogurt is a food of high nutritional value, making it as an essential food for diabetes that can be consumed frequently or even daily. It is a rich source of protein, vitamins, minerals and calcium. As for carbohydrates, lactose is the only carbohydrate present in yogurt. Lactose, like all the other carbohydrates in the body, serves as an energy source. One portion of yogurt gives about 12 grams of carbohydrates and about 8 grams of protein. Non-fat yogurt contains only 38 calories. Plain yogurt and milk have the same high nutritional value and the same amount of calories, but yogurt can provide you with a greater sense of satiety. It can restore the balance of gut flora and helps improve the function of the intestinal system, facilitating digestion. But, why is yogurt so important in the diet of a person with diabetes? Due to the fact that it has a higher content of calcium and phosphorus compared to other foods, as well as significant amounts of zinc and iodine, vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin and B12.
Vitamin D: The intake of sufficient vitamin D may prevent or partly reverse type 2 diabetes according to a study by Tufts University. In this twenty-year-study in 81,700 women, researchers found that those taking more vitamin D, were 28% less likely to suffer from type 2 diabetes. Good sources of vitamin D are milk, eggs and fish.
Coffee: A study revealed that those who drink coffee frequently can avoid this disease. Scientists suspect that coffee beans help the body to process blood sugar more efficiently. What is more, coffee consumption increases a protein called SHBG that can regulate the body’s sex hormones, which seem to play a role in the development of diabetes type 2.
Cinnamon: The active substance in cinnamon is something called MHCP which belongs to polyphenols. This substance mimics insulin, activates its cellular receptors and acts within cells in synergy with insulin. In several experiments in the laboratory, it was shown that cinnamon can neutralize the free radicals that are harmful for the DNA and are elevated in diabetics. A study by Richard Anderson which lasted 40 days and involved 60 volunteers suffering from type 2 diabetes, clearly showed the beneficial effect of cinnamon. These volunteers were divided into 6 groups of 10 persons. One group received 1 gram of cinnamon for 20 days. The second group took 3 grams and the third group took 6 grams for 20 days. The other three groups were treated with placebo. After the end of the study, there were significant reductions in blood glucose levels in all 3 groups that took cinnamon that reached 18% to 29% in some subjects. The first group that received the smallest amount of cinnamon had the best results. There was no change in the groups that received the placebo.

This means that consuming as little as 1 gram of cinnamon per day can be an effective treatment for diabetes.Nicole K.

Restless leg syndrome is a condition in which people who suffer from its affects find great difficulty in going to sleep. The symptoms, which include unpleasant sensations like burning, creeping, tugging like having insects crawling beneath the skin, of RLS strike just as one is lying down or has just drifted off to sleep. This creates an unavoidable urge to get up and move around, which in many instances causes the cessation of the symptoms.

Most people who suffer from this condition want to find a treatment for their restless leg syndrome that prevents the symptoms in the first place. While it’s nice to know that getting up and walking around will make the symptoms go away, for most people they would rather not be affected by the strange crawling sensations in the first place. For many finding a natural treatment for restless leg syndrome is a top priority.

Many experts have theorized that one of the causes of restless leg syndrome is a deficiency in folate and iron.

Folate is a water soluble B vitamin that is found naturally in dark leafy green vegetables such as asparagus, spinach or kale. You can also get folate from fortified breakfast cereals, whole wheat products, liver, eggs, beans and sunflower seeds. A good way to get enough folate is to drink a folate rich juice such as kale juice once a day.

For some people their restless leg syndrome has been tied to an iron deficiency. In one study subjects with RLS and an iron deficiency were given 74 mg of iron three times a day over a two month period. This resulted in reduced symptoms of restless leg syndrome. Iron deficiency is not very common so it is important to be tested to see if you do indeed have iron deficient blood. Taking an iron supplement when not deficient can have adverse effects and may cause more harm then good.

Massage is another natural way to treat restless leg syndrome. Massaging or needing your calf muscles helps promote blood flow to the area and helps to relieve restless legs. Combined with moderate exercise, massage is a great way to naturally treat restless leg syndrome. It is important to ease into any exercise program because many sufferers of RLS who exercised excessively reported that their restless leg syndrome symptoms were aggravated excessive exercise.

One aspect of changing your lifestyle when it comes to the natural treatment of restless leg syndrome is elimination of things that seem to cause and worsen the effects of RLS. Caffeine intake needs to be cut or eliminated as well as all tobacco use. Reduction or elimination of any type of stimulant as well as alcoholic beverages will normally lead to a decrease or total cessation of RLS symptoms.

Finding a natural treatment for restless leg syndrome should be done in conjunction with consultations with your doctor. While many people want to treat themselves a licensed physician can provide the best treatment options for your restless leg syndrome.

People with a sleep disorder often ask, “What is restless leg syndrome?” Restless leg syndrome, occasionally referred to as Ekbom’s syndrome, has as a primary characteristic of an irresistible urge to move the limbs, chiefly the legs. There is a need to get rid of uncomfortable sensations that lead to this need to move the legs in some manner, often by shaking or stretching the legs, sometimes by walking or pacing about.

Moving the legs can give you some relief from the sensations, although typically these are merely temporary and the sensations return. The sensations range from mildly annoying, to painful, burning, itching, tingling, and crawling.

Some doctors have speculated whether or not there is a real condition called restless legs or whether pharmaceutical companies trying to sell medications have exaggerated it. The truth is doctors are increasingly coming to believe that RL S is a genuine condition and diagnostic criteria are now established. Despite this, the reason some people experience restless legs is still vague.

Although you might be prone to tapping your feet, shaking your leg, or otherwise moving about these types of behaviors can also be brought on by conditions such as anxiety, the use of stimulants, including caffeine, and side effects from many different medications. Yet with these type of side effects the sensations that they cause are usually transitory and mild and do not interfere with your day-to-day ability to do things. A mild nervous tic may not be noticed to a great degree, but symptoms of RLS are going to bother you, especially if it interferes with your ability to get a good night’s sleep. Some people who have RLS experience little or no sensation but still have a very strong urge to move their legs.

A defining characteristic of RLS is the fact that you can get relief if you do move the affected limbs. Some people find that symptoms of RLS become worse as they age, and the incidence of restless legs is higher in people over 50 years old.

If you do have RLS the sensations are mild early in the day and become worse as the nighttime approaches. Unfortunately, when it is time for you to lie down to go to bed symptoms are often at their worst. Studies have shown that symptoms of RLS are prevalent among populations in Western countries. In the United States, prevalence is up to 11% depending on the study you consult.

Many people think that they are alone when they suffer from RLS and find relief in the fact that others have been coping with this strange and frustrating condition. People with RLS also experience discomfort during long car rides or flights, or at any time they have to sit still for a lengthy period. You should be aware that many people with RLS also suffer from a condition called periodic limb movement disorder. Some researchers think that the correlation between the two disorders is as high as 90%.
